Biography

Jane (Gibson) Hare was born in Yorkshire, England.

Mary Jane Gibson was baptised in Dalby, Yorkshire, on 15 November 1845 and was the daughter of John and Margaret Gibson.^[1][2][3]

On the 1851 census, Mary Jane, aged 5 years, is living in Skewsby with her parents and siblings: John (15 years), Thomas (8 years), Elizabeth (7 years), William (2 years) and Sophia (2 months). Her father is a farmer of 12 acres.^[4]

On the 1861 census, Mary Jane, aged 15 years. is living in Dalby with Skewsby with her parents and siblings: Thomas (18 years), William (12 years), Sophia (10 years), Jonah (8 years), Christopher (5 years) and Margaret (1 year).^[5]

Mary Jane married Dobson Hare on 4 December 1866 in Dalby, Yorkshire, but they had no children.^[6][7]

On the 1871 census, Dobson and Mary Jane are living in Skewsby Village where Mary Jane was born.^[8]

Mary Jane Gibson died, aged 27 years, on 3 September 1873 and was buried in Dalby, Yorkshire. The death record was registered under the name Jane and shows she died from a heart condition she had had since childhood.^[9][10]
