Biography

Henry Georgeson was born in Walls, Shetland Islands, Scotland and likely baptised on 14 August 1835; he was the son of George Georgeson and Margaret Aberneathy. ^[1]

He married Sar-Augh-Ta-Naogh (Sophy), a First Nations woman, in 1881.^[2]

At the time of the 1881 Canada census, Henry, a fisherman, was residing in the Cowichan/Salt Spring district of British Columbia with his wife and three children.^[3]

He was appointed the first keeper of the Georgina Point lighthouse on Mayne Island. He held this post from 1884 to 1920 and received a long service medal for his work. He augmented his meager salary by building boats for local residents. His brother, James (and James' sons) were the keepers at the East Point lighthouse on Saturna Island.^[4]

On 23 Oct 1908, Henry prepared a will, naming his son George as his sole beneficiary.^[5]
