There appear to have been two men named James Frisken or Friskin, who both lived at the village of Hutton, Berwickshire about the same time:
- James Frisk*n baptized on 10 March 1706 , a son of George Frisk*n and Agnes Hopper.
- James Frisk*n baptized on 29 November 1713, a son of William Frisk*n and Elizabeth Blackadder.
The name of his birthplace, now written Hutton, was shown in some records as "Huttoune".
The correct birthdate and set of parents are unknown with certainty. But the traditional Scottish naming pattern ("First son after father's father...") suggests that George Frisken and Agnes Hopper were the more likely set of parents of James. So also does the birthdate, as it seems unlikely that James Frisk*n was 6-7 years younger than his wife, who was born in 1707.
James Frisk*n married Elizabeth Clazie (or Clasie) in 1734:
(The "Clusie" spelling shown for his wife is otherise unknown; probably the result of bad handwriting or faded ink. That family name was variously written Clasey, Clasie, Clazey, Clezie, Clezy, but usually Clazie; certainly not Clusie.)
The baptism record of first son George, in April 1739, identified his father, James, as a shoemaker at Hutton.
James appears to have died about 2 June 1772. That date is shown in the Commissariot Record of Lauder but it doesn't make entirely clear whether 2 June was the date of his testament, or the date of his death, or the date when the document was filed with the court, or the date when a decision was issued! Only the one date was recorded. It identifies James as a "portioner of Hutton, and tenant of Wester Printonen". That latter location is in the parish of Eccles and shown on modern maps as "West Printonian".

Meanwhile, searching the Register of Testaments for "wester" as a term brings up many tenancies from around Scotland. That part, at least, is location-specific.
Pintonan, however, doesn't show up anywhere yet that I've found beyond the one mention in the above book! Could it be an error in transcription?
