Biography

Of southern Irish heritage, Pat was born in England. In 1929 he emigrated to Alberta, where he was a cowpuncher, pioneer radio broadcaster, and chief announcer at CFAC. In 1939 Pat was the only private station announcer to cover the Royal Visit.

During World War II he was in the Edmonton Fusiliers, and then in the Canadian Intelligence Corps as a Canadian intelligence officer to the American Forces in Kiska, Alaska.

In 1949 the family moved to Toronto, where Pat worked with private broadcasting before becoming President of Foote Cone and Belding Canada, an advertising agency. He was later the general manager of the Canadian Association of Advertising Agencies.

Pat was an inveterate learner, avid sportsman, great writer and raconteur, who was happiest in his later years at Muskoka with family and friends.

He died of a coronary attack just a month before his intended retirement.
