I have written the Histories of the William Edwards, Rose, Knight, Blakiston and Fowler families. In relation to William Edwards, John and Elisabeth Edwards are not his parents. His entry in the Baptism Register shows NO parents recorded. It is also Easebourne not Eastbourne Church. William also fought at Walcheren and in eight major battles and many lesser ones in the Peninsular War, as well at Waterloo, where he was wounded in the right hand by a bayonet and was shot, with a bullet lodging just below his heart and it went to the grave with him.

William Edwards. He was shown to have John as his father and Elizabeth as his mother. This is incorrect. The Baptismal Records show no parents.

From the six family trees I have been involved in, one thing stands out, particularly for the years 1400 - 1900. The name of the father appears somewhere among the male children, either first or later children. If not in the first generation, at least in the second. Whilst William appears as his son, nowhere does John appear in 8 generations, except as Clarence John. Therefore it can be strongly assumed that John was not William's father.

William at the age of 17 joined the 95th Rifles and 12 weeks after joining, he was on a ship for Walcheren, Netherlands, as the British went to capture their ships before Napoleon could get them. Unfortunately, this venture failed and 3,000 soldiers died from the Walcheren Fever and 12,000 returned to England and were hospitalized. This included William. He then went to Spain, to Cadiz, where he was involved in fighting the French during the Peninsular War. By the end of this war, he had fought in eight major battles and many minor ones. He then went on and fought at the Battle of Waterloo, where he was bayoneted in his right hand and received a bullet under his heart, which went to the grave with him.

The name of the Church is Easebourne, not Eastbourne where he married Eleanor Ayling.

In 1830, William, with his wife and four children, sailed to Western Australia on the Rockingham, under the Thomas Peel scheme. They lived at Pinjarrah, with William working between Mandurah and Pinjarrah, before going to Guildford, York and Beverley. Matilda, his daughter, was born on the banks of the Murray River, the first European child born in the Peel area. He had another three sons born at Guildford.

Could you please amend the article on him that is incorrect?

Hi Kevin

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.
