Sir Henry William Forster was born on January 31, 1866 at Southend Hall, Kent, England, United Kingdom. His parents were Major John Forster (1826 - 1886), late 6th Dragoon Guards, and Emily Jane (Case) Forster (~1834 - 1896).
Educated at Eton and New College, Oxford (B.A., 1889), he excelled at tennis and fencing, played cricket for Eton, Oxford, and Kent, captained Hampshire, and represented the Gentleman against Players. Over six feet (183 cm) tall, he was of the spare, typical sportsman's build.
Henry married Rachel Cecily Douglas-Scott-Montagu (1870 - 1962), daughter of the first Lord Montagu of Beaulieu, on June 3, 1890, in London, England.

Henry died on January 15, 1936 in London aged 69. Forster was survived by his wife and two daughters when he died of coronary-vascular disease in London on 15 January 1936.
