Biography

Birth

Margaret Jemima Fordyce was born on 10 November 1760 in Inveresk with Musselburgh, Midlothian, Scotland to Captain William Fordyce (gentleman of the bedchamber to George III) and Elizabeth (Fraser) Fordyce. [1] [2] [3]

Marriage

Sir Richard Perrott married Dame Margaret Jemima Fordyce on 4 March 1782 in Inveresk with Musselburgh, Midlothian, Scotland. [1] [2] [4] [5] [3]

Following the death of her first husband. She may have re-married to Sir James Bland Burgess, Baronet. [3]

Lady Perrott v. Farnworth

Lady Margaret sued her son in law Samuel Farnworth for the maintenance of her daughter Mrs Elizabeth (Perrott) Farnworth (Samuel's wife) in the Court of Exchequer before the Chief Baron, at Westminster in May 1818. It was reported in The Times on 11 May 1818. [6]

The report of the hearing detailed that Mr and Mrs Farnworth had separated in 1809. After this time Elizabeth moved into her mother's home as a boarder and received no financial assistance from her husband.

Mr Farnworth's acquaintances testified that Mrs Farnworth had been adulterous. Her brother, mother and various other family friends testified on her behalf, dismissing the accusations of adultery.

The jury, after a short consideration, found a verdict for the plaintiff (Mrs Perrott) of two guineas per week for 52 weeks, or for 109 L 4s. Costs 40s.

Death

She passed away on 17 May 1832. [3]
