Birth estimated from marriage date as about 1770, probably in Nenthorn, Berwickshire, Scotland

Notes: The baptism date of a George at Hutton 15 Aug 1776 supposedly to parents William and Ann Downey has been replaced by the above estimate, parents unproven.

It seems an unlikely id given that William and Ann's marriage entries are in Nenthorn and Eccles 6 Dec 1776, William in Nenthorn, Ann in Eccles, and the child that shows up to a couple of those names in the OPRs, Helen was baptized at Eccles in 1779

The baptism entry of a George in Aug 1776 at Hutton to a father William "in Paxton", no mother mentioned, also makes no mention of any illegitimacy Henderson-2297 07:34, 28 June 2016 (EDT)
