Does anyone know where in Scotland John came from or who is parents are?

His death certificate is unhelpful - parents unknown but both born Scotland.

Naming pattern of the children indicate that the names John or Robert might be significant (first son's name) and a later son also named Robert.

The 1860 census shows a Margaret FAIRBAIRN, aged 44 living with the family - is she his sister? Anyone know what happened to her?
