- The Legerwood Kirk Sessions records: "Compeared John Fairbairn & Helen Aitchison & signified to the Session that they had been married Irregularly at Edinr the first Inst & that they were sorry for the offence that they had given thereby They produced Lines of their Marriage and expressed their willingness to submit to the Session. They being removed the Session after deliberating maturely appointed them to pay Two shillings & six pence Ster. for the .. of the poor Rebuked at the Barr and absolved which was done accordingly."[2]
