William's birth/parents?

The 1851 census records indicate that William was born about 1777 in Dunblane, although the 1841 census, with its rounded down ages might push that back to between 1771 and 1776.

It therefore seems unlikely that he is the 1764 baptism in Muthill to William Faichney and Jean Aitken. That William seems more likely to be the one married to Ann Robertson (1766-1856) which couple have family in Blackford, Perthshire from 1787 through to 1808 overlapping William and Jane's family in Dunblane, 1805 and 1810.

Update May 2021

Despite his 1856 death cert. showing his mother as Catherine Murray, it does seem highly likely given the places, timeframes that the existence of a baptism to John Fechney and Elizabeth Murray is highly significant Henderson-2297 07:33, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
