I think there is some misunderstanding on the meaning of suggestion 749. It is not about a difference between profile and official documents. It is about a cultural difference: many European cultures do not have the concept of middle name, they only know given names. So for Dutch profiles all given names as recorded in the birth or baptism record must go into the Proper First Name item (and also into the Preferred Name item, unless you are sure a different preferred name was used when the person was alive). Furthermore the Middle Name item must be left empty and the "no middle name" button must be activated.
Thanks for offering the correction on my data entry. to clarify, if her person's name is Jo-Anne de Vries I enter her name in two fields including preferred name? I would then also click the box in the data entry field as "no middle name".
If this is correct, please let me know. I will try to go back and correct my previous entries and remember it going forward.
Thanks for your help.
Our vision is to build a collaborative tree. Please make sure to look for duplicates on WikiTree before adding a profile. Having dates and locations attached to every person assists in our mission as well.
Feel free to check out How To Use WikiTree. It's a great step-by-step guide.
Also Help Index with links to topics you may have questions on. Don't forget our G2G Forum where many of our generous members help each other out.
And of course, I'm here to help in any way Im able. Just ask!
Here is more info on Gedcoms: Here's a link to a great step-by-step of the process including screenshots that you might find helpful.
If you have any brick walls, collaboration might help bust through. Because WikiTree has only one profile for each person, the further back you go in your ancestry, the more likely cousins will find you and help out. ANY Wiki Genealogist can edit "Open" profiles (over 200 years old = open). There's also a brickwall tag in the G2G forum: brickwall
You are now a member of the WikiTree Community. Please note we are trying to build one Collaborative Tree which means one profile per person. It is important to ensure no duplicates are entered as you add any Profiles to WikiTree.
If you need any help getting started check out the help section from the menu, top right, or head over to the G2G forum and take a minute to introduce yourself in the Tree House, you might also want to check out the introductory WikiTree video that a member created.
Our Mentor Team are a friendly bunch of volunteers who will be glad to help you with specific problems if you have any.
Was directed to this site by a member of a New Brunswick genealogy group. Have already found a long searched for UEL connection. Love the references for each site. Once I figure out how to do download my gedcom I will do it.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

The help pages give lots of information about the process, best to start with 'Before you import a GEDCOM'.
