George Eden (1784 - 1849)

Biography

George was born in 1784. He is the son of William Eden and Eleanor Elliot.

From November 1806 until March 1810 he was vendue master (slave auctioneer) of Demerara & Essequibo. Left the post upon the death of his brother William Frederick Eden, to succeed him as as Member of Parliament. ^[1]

He served as Governor-General of India, 1836–1842.

He died in 1849 leaving no male heir so his title is extinct.
