Biography
Martha was born in 1829. She was the daughter of James Dunn and Mary Ayars. She first married in 1847 to Adam Link. Martha was mentioned as Martha "Link" in the will of her father dated 28 Oct, 1848.
Martha was widowed with four children when Adam Link died in 1857. She again married in 1864 to Samuel Pavey as his third wife. Her marriage to Samuel ended tragically in 1879 with her son John Link standing trial for the murder of Pavey and one of his sons by a previous marriage. Transcripts of the 1880 hearings were published daily in The Highland Weekly News until John was acquitted by a jury who unanimously agreed the shooting deaths were in self-defense.
She passed away a few years later in 1883. The Highland Weekly News reported Her son, John, who was absent at the time of her death, did not reach here in time to see her remains buried. On last Saturday morning he had his mother taken up for his benefit and her only brother living, Mr. Dunn, of Taylorsville. Martha had stated at John's trial he had periodically resided with her brother David in Taylorsville after she had married Samuel Pavey.
