Biography

Jane Duncanson / Dunkinson ^[1] was born 1840 and died in 1902. She was the daughter of William Duncanson and Mary/May McEwan.

Jane arrived in Tasmania on 29/8/1855 at age 15 with her parents & (most of) her siblings on the ship 'Storm Cloud' from Glasgow, Scotland.

Jane's second husband George was a publican in Stanley from 1/12/1881 - 1/12/1883, with Jane being the licensee from 1/12/1884 - 1/12/1887. ^[2]

Research Notes

A previous interpretation that Jane died 27 FEB 1875, Ulverstone, Tasmania, Australia^[10] is in doubt.

This being because I cannot verify it, the date is exactly that of the birth of Jane's niece Jane, dtr of Thomas and Jane (McCulloch) Duncanson, and because of DNA matches between two distant cousins descendants of Archibald Henderson and Margaret McEwan and of a Jane Dunkinson/Duncanson who fits the bill for this Jane, apart from a distinct lack of detail on certs. as to her parents.

However the link is believed to be contained on Jane's marriage cert. to George Kay. It shows that the marriage took place at the house of Mrs Duncanson, River Leven and is rather likely to be the M Duncanson witness to the marriage..

Jane's mother is believed to be Mary / May Duncanson, nee McEwan, whose 1884 death was registered in Ulverstone, the informant being her grandson William, of Leven. Henderson-2297 09:02, 9 February 2019 (UTC)
