While unproven, it is possible that John Byrd Duke could be the same person born with the name "Bird Cooper" who is listed with the same birthdate in the Shadrack Duke Bible, and his mother could be Sarah Duke. Y-DNA testing of one of his descendants has shown his haplogroup to be R-M269, and he did not match with any of the known Duke groups, but he did match with a descendant of Daniel Duke, who seems likely to be his brother.[2][3]
According to a merged record, the birth and death dates and places are based on family information handed down. The dates also match those on his headstone.[1]
