Alex married Celia Aspevig in 1923.[2] After their marriage Alec and Celia settled on NE 6-2-6 - one mile east of the Pearce Church and School - where five children were born: Eileen, Ole, Allan, Arthur, and Dale.
Alec helped operate one of the tractors that helped move the church to the corner in 1921. He served as an elder and on the Board of Stewards for the Pearce Church as well as as a trustee and secretary-treasurer (1942-1945) of the Pearce School District #1981.[3] Being a local farmer he was also active in the community as an original member of the Thornhill Pool Elevator and the Thornhill Co-Op Store.
In his spare time, Alec enjoyed hunting, fishing, and curling.
His son Dale remembered him teaching him to play cards and games ‘the right way’. He wouldn’t make foolish plays to let the children win, Alec would teach them how to beat him fair and square.
Alec and Celia retired from the farm in 1964 when they moved to Morden.
He passed away in 1974. He is buried in Chapel Cemetery in Morden, Manitoba.[4]
