Biography

Jines: "In 1915, during the era when several Benton County schools would hold a joint Eighth Grade Promotion with accompanying contests, Vaughn was represented by the teacher, Leroy McGinnis, and students,...Zelma Douglas...The principal speaker was Prof. J.L. Bond, State Superintendent of Rural Schools. Vaughn was the host school in 1917 for Promotion Day." Aunt Zelma, whom I do not remember, was married to Everett Chastain. After she died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in 1947, her widower married Zelma's sister, Nola Douglas.
