Biography

There is no baptismal record to be found for Andrew [the family may have belonged to the Free Church?].

There is also no record for the marriage of Andrew Doig and Janet Doig, which must have taken place about 1752-1756 (the parish records for these years for Kilmadock are missing).

On 12 July 1749, Andrew Dog in Burnside witnessed the christening of Isabell, daughter of Archibald Paterson and Christian Bennet in Boghall. Andrew farmed first Burnside and then Murdockstoun, nearby farms in Kilmadock Parish near Thornhill.

A FARM TO LET[1]
That upon Friday the 25th day of September current at three o'clock afternoon precisely, within the house of James Wingate, Vintner in Stirling, there is to be set, by way of public roup, for the space of nineteen years after Martinmas next.
All and Haill that Farm or Mailing of Land called BURNSIDE OF MURDOCHSTOWN, lying in the neighbourhood of Thornhill, parish of Kilmadock, and shire of Perth; consisiting of about fifty acres of ground Scots measure, besides a proportion of the Moss adjoining the lands, fit for pasturage. There is an ordinary steading of houses on the farm, a malt-barn, kiln, and distilling-house, all well served with water, and lying in a part of the country well adapted for carrying on the business of distilling.
Any person inclining to take the same, will be shown the lands and pertinents by Andrew Doig, the present tenant; and the articles of set to be seen in the hands of John Macgibbon, Town-clerk of Stirling.

Andrew died between 1788 and 1793. Andrew Doig in Murdiston was buried with wife Janet Doig in Norrieston Churchyard in Thornhill.[2] Janet was buried in the adjoining grave. The gravestones lie flat and taper like a coffin cover; on the top of one is a crest of a circle around crossed knives, and the other is a circle around an open book, probably the Bible.

His testament was recorded 25 Nov 1793 at Dunblane Commissary Court. Son John was confirmed as heir and was granted a promissory note of £50 owed to Andrew.

Confirmation was granted on Andrew Doig's estate on 25 Nov 1793 at Dunblane Commissary Court.[3]
