Biography

She was the daughter of William Pinkney Dickson and Margaret or Mary S. (Susanna) Martin. Her mother was from Indiana.

In the 1850 Census for Spartanburg County, South Carolina, the household of W. P. Dickson is on line 21, dwelling 320, family 320:

W P Dickson, age 42, M, Farmer, 3000, born in Ireland

Mary S. Dickson, age 32, F, born in Indiana

John Dickson, age 16, M, born in S. C.

S. E. Dickson, age 13, M (sic), born in S. C. This could be a female, Sarah E.

M I Dickson, age 10, F, born in S. C.

M A Dickson, age 5, F, born in S. C.

Sarah married John Foster Kelso about 1855, possibly in Washington, Daviess, Indiana.

In 1860 John and Sarah were living in Spartanburg. John was age 26 born in South Carolina. Sarah was age 22, born in South Carolina. They had a daughter, Laura A Kelso, age 1, born in South Carolina.^[2]

The Kelso family was living in Campbello, Spartanburg, South Carolina in 1870.

In 1880 the family was living in Justice Precinct 3, Bell County, Texas. The 1880 Census shows Sarah as having been born in Indiana.^[4]

The 1900 Census shows that she was married 45 years, and was the mother of 12 children, 9 then living. Children with F John Kelso and Sarah Kelso were Alvin, Sallie, Earnest and Mary.^[5]

In 1910 Sarah was living in the household of her son E D Kelso; E D and his wife Birdie had two daughters, Kathleen and Mary, born in Texas. Also in the household were Mary and Bertha Kelso, E D Kelso's sisters.^[6]
