Reginald Denny, who was mayor of Oamaru from 1977 to 1989 and, subsequently, following the merger of the Oamaru Borough Council with the Waihemo and Waitaki County Councils, mayor of the Waitaki district from 1989 to 1992, died on Saturday, at the age of 85. Mr Familton yesterday conveyed his deepest sympathy to Mr Denny's family on behalf of the Waitaki community, and praised Mr Denny's public service. Reg was an energetic and considerate and decisive person who contributed over a long period of time to the positive development of Oamaru and Waitaki, Mr Familton said.
