Biography
Thomas was born on the 29 August 1838 in St. Giles, City of London, in the West End, London Borough of Camden, Middlesex & London, England. His parents were Thomas (Daws) and Mary (O'Grady). He marries Mary Ann (Alford) on the 19 January 1863 at the Parish Church of St. John the Evangelist, Waterloo Road, District Parish of St. John's Waterloo, London Borough of Lambeth, Middlesex & London, England. The couple were married by J. Wharton and witnesses were Charles and Ellen (Ransom). At the time of his marriage, he was working as a Coal Porter, living at John Street and his father was Thomas (Daw), who worked as a Carret Gilder. Mary Ann lived in Waterloo Road and her father was William Alford, a Weaver[1][2]. The couple had the followiing children:
In 1871, Thomas "Dowers" and his wife Mary Ann live with children Charlotte, Margaret and Thomas "Dowers" and her mother, 71 year old, Charlotte (Alford) at 8 Vestry Room, Church Passage, District of Strand, Parish of Liberty of the Rolls, London & Middlesex, England[3]. Mary Ann dies in 1877 and we find Thomas living as a widower with his children Charlotte, Margaret, Thomas and Samuel (Daw) at 20 King Street, in the District of Lambeth, Surrey & London, England[4]. On the 23 January 1885, he departs with his children Charlotte (22), Margaret (20), Thomas (16), Samuel (12) and Sarah Ann (10) from the London Docks aboard the vessel "Glenavon". They are emigrating to the Swan River Colony, arriving there on the 21 May 1885.

The barque 'Glenavon, from London, after a lengthened passage of 116 days, anchored in Gage's Roads this morning. The ?? favorable weather experienced for some time past has no doubt retarded this vessel. The Glenavon brings a number of nominated immigrants, together with a l?? miscellaneous general cargo. She was built at Dumbarton, in 1868, and is one of the finest vessels that have ever ?? Gage's Roads[5].
Thomas passes away on the 23 June 1899 at Jarrahdale Hospital, Jarrahdale Road, in the Town of Jarrahdale, in the Darling Ranges, located 45 km south-east of the capital, Perth, Western Australia. He was 61 years old at the time and the cause of death will be on his Certificate[6]. His burial takes place around the 24 June 1899 at the Jarrahdale Cemetery, Atkins Street in the Town of Jarrahdale, Shire of Serpentine, Western Australia[7]. The inscription on his gravestone reads:---In Memory of THOMAS DAWS. Born 29th August 1830. Died 23rd June 1899. Gone For Evermore.
