David was born on 12 September 1843 at High Ards, Logie Pert, Forfarshire, Scotland[1], and baptised on 1 Oct that year at Logie-Pert[2]. He was the son of James Davison and Elizabeth Croll.
He married Diana Dobbie on 5 December 1873 at Montrose, Forfarshire[3]. David and Diana had six children.
In 1881 he was a flax spinning mill overseer aged 36 living with his wife Diana (32) and three children - Alexander (60 and Jemima M (4) , both scholars, and Diana (1) at 21, Victoria Street, Montrose, Forfarshire[16]. By 1891 the family had grown to five children - Alexander (an ironmongers apprentice aged 16), Jemima M (a millinery apprentice aged 14), and Diana (11), David J (9) and Charles B (90, all three scholars, living with him (a flax mill overseer aged 47) and his wife Diana (44) at 45, Lower Hall Street, Montrose, Forfarshire[17]. Also in the household were his brother-in-law Alexander Dobbie (a widowed ship carpenter aged 54) and his son James W Dobbie (a scholar aged 12).
Only Alexander had left home by 1901, and the four remaining children - Jemima M (a dressmaker aged 24), Diana (a linen weaver aged 21), David J (a rural postman aged 19) and Charles B (a house carpenter apprentice aged 19) - were all employed and living at 10, Carnegie Street, Montrose, Forfarshire[18]. He was still a flax mill overseer now aged 57, and his wife Diana was 53. He aged 67 was still living in Montrose in 1911[19] with his wife Diana (64), daughter Diana (31) and twin sons, David James and Charles Bertie (both 29). The family were still living together in 1921[20], just ten years older.
David died on 30 September 1926 aged 83 years at Montrose, Forfarshire, and his death was registered at Montrose[22]. He was buried in Rosehill Cemetery, Montrose[23].
