Note

This file, which Karen Bailey adopted, has been merged with one created by Ian Jones. Ian had William recorded as John's father and this has been retained along with notes on his father being John (from Karen's records). Was he possibly William John?

Biography

John was born about 1843. It was believed he passed away in 1908, but he appears on 1911 census below. Is it a co-incidence that a John and Nancy of similar ages are found. I cannot co-relate the children in 1911 to my records - Karen Son of John DAVIDSON (bc1813 in Scotland or Ireland, dc1868, Ireland) and (Lydia?) SWANN (bc 1820, dc1843 Ireland) who married c1842 Ireland.

1901 Census: Agnes Davidson 56 yrs - all born co Down - dau Annie Lydia Swan Davidson 16 yrs, draper's assistant, Mary Jane Swan Davidson 10 yrs, visitor Agnes Davidson 5 yrs, resided in 1901 in a house 23 in Cahard (Kilmore, Down) form completed by John Davidson. [1]

1911 Census: John Davidson 68 yrs, farmer, wife Nancy 64 yrs, son Francis 31 yrs, Agnes 23 yrs - all born co Antrim - resided in 1911 in house number 2 in Shillanavogy (Slemish, Antrim) [2]

Listed as a farmer in 1911 but reported to be a teacher earlier in life.
Claimed to have been married 42 years in 1911

Believed to have had 2 other sons before Elizabeth (source unknown):

  • Robert "Bob" DAVIDSON born 14 May 1872, Ballynahinch, County Down, died 24 Dec 18xx Chicago, USA. * Samuel DAVIDSON born 1870's County Down, died California USA.

and a daughter (plus 2 babies that died young) after Annie:

  • Mary Jane Swan DAVIDSON b5 Nov 1890, Co Down, died 2 Mar 1983 Enler House, Ballydeen, Dundold, Belfast, age 92.
