Biography
Thomas William was born in 1842, the son of Samuel Davidson and Mary Morris Haley. He passed away in 1924 and is buried in Palestine Cemetery, Montpelier, Clay County, Mississippi.
He enlisted in the CSA 1 Mar 1861, Co. H, 13th Regiment Mississippi Infantry (The Spartan Band of Sparta, MS). Organized into Col. Barksdale's Brigade, Gen. Lafayette McLaw's Div., Gen. Longstreet's Corps of the Army of Northern VA, Gen. Robert E. Lee commanding.
CSA records reveal that T. W. Davidson participated in the following engagements:
- First Manassas (Bull Run), Garnett's Farm, Savage Station (these 3 in the Seven Days Battles)
- Malvern Hall
- Maryland Heights
- Sharpsburg -- wounded
- 1st Fredericksburg
- 2nd Fredericksburg
- 2nd day at Gettysburg Peach Orchard and 3rd day at Gettysburg Wheat Field
- Chickamauaga
- Campbell's Station
- Knoxville 18 Nov 1863
- Knoxville 29 Nov 1863 -- captured
- Promoted to 5th Sgt.
He was captured on date shown above, exchanged and paroled 22 Jan 1864. He made his way home and married his stepsister, Lucinda Isabelle Abercrombie circa Feb 1864.
