- John and Agnes seem to have been at great pains to show Agnes was their daughter as there are entries in 3 different parish records for her:
- Morebattle: "John DAVIDSON farm servant at Nether Mains in the Par. of Chirnside and Agnes FAIRBAIRN his spouse had a daughter born at Morebattle 25th Mar 1840 named Agnes. Registered Par of Morebattle, 28 Dec 1854"; [1]
- Chirnside: (see baptism)
- Edrom: a note after birth registration for Walter in Edrom OPR states Agnes born Morebattle, without any dates[2][3]
