Biography

James was born at Newfield in the Parish of Dryfesdale, County of Dumfries, Scotland, on 17 May 1836, the first child of Richard Davidson and Elizabeth Boyes.^[1]

James Davidson, age 24, married Mary Johnston, age 19, at Dyke in the Parish of Dalton, County of Dumfries, Scotland, on 17 August 1860. James was living at Newfield in the Parish of Dryfesdale, while Mary was living at Dyke in the Parish of Dalton. They were both single. James was a labourer. His father was Richard Davidson, a shepherd, and his mother was Elizabeth Boyes. They lived at Gillembie in Dryfesdale. Mary’s father was James Johnston, a tailor, and her mother was Sarah Thompson. They lived at Dyke.^[2]

James died from bronchopneumonia at Bridgemuir in Lochmaben, County of Dumfries, Scotland, on 15 July 1886. He had had chronic bronchitis for a number of years.^[3]
