Walter Davey was born in Eldon Lane on 28 May 1906 and was the son of William Davey and Sarah Ann Pybus.^[1]

On the 1911 census, Walter, aged 4 years, is living at 2 Margaret Terrace, South Church, Durham, with his parents and siblings: William (14 years), John (6 years), Sydney (2 years) and Matthew (1 month).^[2] On the 1921 census, Walter, aged 14 years, is living at 2 Margaret Terrace, South Church, Durham, with his parents and siblings: John (16 years), Sydney (12 years), Matthew (10 years), Robert (7 years) and Elsie (5 years).^[3]

Walter married Mary Brown in 1926 and they had five children.^[4]

On the 1939 Register, Walter, a miner, and Mary are living at 102 Gurney Valley. Bishop Auckland, with their children.^[5]
