From "The New York Times," April 21, 1891,

The Rev. Henry Darling.
The Rev. Henry Darling, D. D., LL. D., President of Hamilton College, Clinton, N. Y., died yesterday of bronchitis. President Darling was born in Reading, Penn., in 1823. He entered Amherst College and was graduated in 1842, when but nineteen years old. He pursued the study of theology for a year thereafter at the Union Theological Seminary in New-York City, and for two years more at the Auburn Theological Seminary. He was ordained at Hudson, N. Y., to which place he was called as pastor of the Presbyterian church. He left there in 1853 to go to the Clinton Street Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, where he labored with a success that won him a reputation until 1861. At this time his health broke down and he was compelled to retire. Until 1863 he was without a charge for this reason.
In 1863 Dr. Darling assumed charge of the large Fourth Presbyterian Church of Albany, and he held that pastorate for eighteen years. He always took an active part in the deliberations of the Church assemblies of this denomination, and his clear and practical judgment, ready knowledge of parliamentary forms, and oratorical ability gave him a commanding influence. This was recognized in 1881 by his election as Moderator of the General Assembly held at Buffalo. He was always an earnest advocate of the duty of the Church to educate its members and was a warm supporter of a plan to take Hamilton College under the patronage of the Presbyterian Church in the State of New-York and so provide it with an ample endowment. It was as the representative of this policy that in 1881 he accepted the position of President of Hamilton College.
President Darling published many of his sermons delivered on special occasions and contributed largely to religious periodicals. The degree of Doctor of Divinity was conferred on him in 1860 by Union College and the degree of Doctor of laws by Hamilton College and by Lafayette College in 1881.
All exercises at Hamilton College will cease until after Dr. Darling's funeral.
