Biography

Mary Ann Cullen was born in about 1866 in St Helens, Lancashire. She was the daughter of Philip and Mary Cullen.

By April 3rd 1881, Mary was working as a domestic servant, but still living with her parents.

Mary Ann married Thomas McKinley in 1886, in a registrar-attended ceremony in Prescot district.

Their son John Thomas McKinley was born in about 1888 in St Helens. His birth was registered in the first quarter of 1888, in Prescot district.

Their daughter Margaret McKinley was born in 1889 in St Helens. Her birth was registered in the last quarter of 1889, in Prescot district.

By April 5th 1891, the family was living at 3 Graham Street, Parr, St Helens. Thomas was employed as a general labourer.

Thomas died in 1900 in St Helens, aged 48. He was buried on 26 May 1900 in St Helens Cemetery, in an unpurchased grave.

By March 31st 1901, Mary was still living in St Helens, and was working as a charwoman to support herself and her six children. Her mother was living with them, and also working as a charwoman.

Mary married John Clarke in 1908, in a registrar-attended ceremony in Prescot district.

By April 2nd 1911, they were living in Windle with children of both of them from before their marriage. John was employed as a glass works labourer.
