Biography
Mary was born 22 August 1791 and baptised the daughter of John Croucher esq., and Sarah (daughter of John Honour) of the Hay Market, in the Dissenting Protestant chapel, St James, Westminster. She was "registered" at the Library of Dr Williams, Redcross Street near Cripplegate, London on 23 November 1791.[1]
William Penfold married Mary Croucher in Slinfold, Sussex on 26 July 1821 by licence.[2] Witnesses were Mary Susannah Penfold, John Croucher, John Buterworth, SH Butterworth, L Burford, Robert Monser.
William and Mary had at least 5 children.

In 1851 William (60), Mary (55) and two sons John C (24) Henry (20), a visitor Mary S Penfold (57), and two servants, are living at 20 Middle street, Brighton.[4] Father William is a solicitor born Brighton, Mary was born Middlesex.
In 1861 William and Mary, son John Croucher and two servants at 20 Middle Street, Brighton. William and John C are both solicitors.[5] Mary was born St James, Westminster, Middlesex.
William died 24 January 1868 aged 78. Probate was granted to widow Mary on 1 April 1868.[6]
In 1871 with son John is head of the house, although unmarried, Mary is living with him and three servants at 20 Middle Street, Brighton.[7]
Mary died in 1873 aged 81.[8]
