Biography

Church of Ireland Clergy

Maurice Crosbie was born c 1733. He was educated by Mr Conolly and entered Trinity College Dublin on 27 November 1749, aged 16. Graduated BA (1754), MA (1758), BD (1764) and a DD (1769).[1]

He was collated Prebendary of Kllmainmore (Tuam) on 10 April 1762. (ff.) He resigned in 1771. He was appointed Dean of Limerick by patent dated 3 Oct 1771, instituted 11th November and installed on 16th December. He was at the same time Rector of Castle-island, in the diocese of Ardfert. [Ch. B.] .[2]

He married firstly, Elizabeth Gun, daughter of William Gun, on 22 March 1762. and secondly Pyne Cavendish, daughter of Sir Henry Cavendish, 1st Bt. and Anne Pyne, on 13 August 1768. He had one daughter by his first marriage and three daughters and a son by the second. He son William Crosbie (1771-1832) was the fourth and last Baron Brandon as well as being Rector of Castle Island, Kerry, but died with no surviving issue.

He is the 6xgreat grandfather of the Princesses of York, Beatrix and Eugenia.

Maurice died at Wicklow on 18th June 1809.[3]
