Bettine was born in 1921. She began a typist/stenographer. She travelled to England where she worked for a time in a Bank. She enjoyed singing, and was at one time a member of the Methodist Youth Singers, a youth choir that existed in Melbourne for some years. After her return to Melbourne she married the Rev Jack Finlay, who was a widower. They had twin daughters. Her husband was often involved in church work, in particular as the Clerk of Presbytery, and there can be no doubt that Bettine's secretarial skills provided valuable assistance in his work. Bettine passed away in 2016.
