Matthew, I'm going to orphan Gilbert Wright and the descendant profiles I manage as they are not in my family line.

Thanks M, I’ll take on Gilbert and add some more of his children soon. Although there are now two distinct Hannah Wrights, they might still be related to each other - we’ll see what turns up.

Hello Matthew,

Thanks for creating well-sourced pre-1700 profiles like Richard Baldwyn (1642-1679).

Please try to provide at least a birth or death location estimate rather than leaving both locations blank. This helps disambiguate people since we have a global tree, locations help distinguish one profile of the same name from another. Even an estimate such as a continent, e.g., Europe or North America, is better than blank. Please read more here. You can explain the rationale for your estimate in a = = Research Notes = = section.

For example, in the case of Richard, his being baptized in Worcestershire, so lacking any other evidence, it is almost certain that Richard was also born in Worcestershire, so that would be a reasonable estimate that can be marked as uncertain and explained in the research notes.

Please let me know if you need help or clarification on any of this.

Thanks.

-William

Thanks, that’s good advice about putting a place and marking it as uncertain - I’d noticed when checking whether a profile already exists, that there are some (usually from gedcoms) with no place or date information at all, and can see the problems caused; so I intended at least to put the name of the country… but it turns out I haven’t actually remembered to do so!

Yes, we have a backlog of old imported profiles that don't even have a date on the birth or death, those are a real distraction. When I come across them, I try to put in an estimated date based on either the parents, children, or spouse having a date and explain my process for the estimation in the = = Research Notes = = together with using the template { { Estimated Date | Birth } }.

Hi Matthew,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand this Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines laid out on that page.
