Hulda Colyar was the daughter of Samuel Pike Colyar and Margaret Pearson. The Colyar family migrated from Logan County, Ohio to Cass County, Michigan about 1830. She married Joseph "Joses" Reams on 30 December 1831 in Michigan. Family tradition states that Joses wanted to move the family to the west and went to the Washington Territory to seek a new home to settle in the early 1850's. While in the west he died. Hulda then remarried in 1859 to William Abbott (a widower) of Prairie Ronde, Kalamazoo County, Michigan. Little in known of Hulda's life other than she was the mother of atleast eight children with Mr. Reams. Five of her sons fought for the Union during the Civil War. Three of them are buried in National Cemeteries. She died in Bellevue while caring for her son Uriah who had become an invalid.
Her children were: Samuel C. Reams (1832-1921) Mahala Reams Rush (1834-1873) Uriah Reams (1837-1904) Oscar F. Reams (1839-1864) Erastus E. Reams (1841-1912) Zephaniah Reams (1845-1863) Leander Reams (1848-1932) Elizabeth Reams Bentley (1854-1894)
