Mrs Maude Louella Colyer Bailey 62 of Port Maltilda died in the Philipsburg State Hospital Sunday at 8:45 am where she had been hospitalized for two weeks. Born in Potters Mills Oct 5,1895 she was the daughter of Mary E and John W Colyer. She was married to William T Bailey who died Nov 16,1935. Surviving are children Mrs Ethel Cann,Mrs Glenn Moore, Charles Bailey,Grover Bailey, and Mrs Jacqueline Johnson all of Port Matilda,and Carl Bailey of Niagara Fall,New York. Also surviving are three brothers David Colyer,and Morris Colyer of Lock Havenand Oscar Colyer of Mill Hall, and one sister Mrs Mabel Weaver of Mill Hall 15 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She was a member of the Methodist Church of Port Matilda and its Women's Society of Christian Service.Friends will be received at the Bennett Funeral Home ,Port Matilda from today at 7 pm until time of services on Wednesday at 2 pm, also from the funeral home Rev C Mitchell Hammond will officiate and burial will be in Presbyterian Cemetery in Port Matilda.

Lawrence Bailey

My memories of my paternal Grandmother are more limited than those of my maternal grandmother. They were limited to our visited to my father’s former hometown the small borrough of Port Matilda, Pennsylvania. I remember her as a lean erected little woman, but not in the least frail. She always seemed to present herself as formal and proper; although she never seemed stern. Her hair was jet black. Something I always noted since my other grandmother’s hair was gray/white. Of course I never knew of hair coloring then. She appeared to be never overly emotional or physical affectionate as a rule, especially compared to my Mom’s family. But she was always happy to see us when we visited. I chalked this up to an austere Pennsylvania Dutch Heritage.
