Biography

Celia, daughter of Thomas Collins and Elizabeth Dring was born in 1810 ^[1] and baptised on 11 August 1816 in New South Wales.^[2]

In 1824, she married Owen Cavanagh at Windsor, New South Wales. ^[3]

Celia died from bronchitis. An item in the Windsor and Richmond Gazette dated 14th June, 1890 reads:

• IN MEMORIAM

On Saturday last Mrs. Cavanough of Lower Portland passed away at the good old age of 81 years, About a month ago she was taken ill, and although at times she seemed a little brighter, still it was evident to all (except the love-blinded eyes) that her call had come. Her spiritual comfort was great. Mrs. Cavanough for many years has been connected with the Methodist Church and proved a "Mother in Israel", extending to all a hearty greeting and kindly welcome. Her memory will long be green in this district. On Monday the 9th inst. her remains were placed in the Wesleyan Cemetery by the side of her husband. Many friends gathered at the funeral. The service was conducted by the Revd. H. Woodhouse, and Mr. W. C. Roberts gave the address. The whole service was of a deeply impressive character. Another old resident gone! But we part to meet again.
