Biography

The son of Joseph Lee Coffey and Agnes Laurene (Williams) Coffey.

I was born in Okinawa JP while my father was stationed there as a USAF officer. I was raised in Mobile AL, Tacoma WA, Wiesbaden DE, Biloxi MS, Cape Charles VA, Ogden UT, Roy UT, Aurora CO, and Greenwood Village CO, where I attended high school. I earned a BA from the University of Colorado and an MA from Regis University.

I worked at a daily newspaper, a computer-graphics company, a laser manufacturer, and a hard-disk manufacturer before retirement.

Richard Lee Coffey, FTDNA kit #168121, and his 2nd cousin once removed, Ed Wilson, FTDNA kit #34445 match at a Genetic Distance of 2 of 111 and 2 of 667 markers thereby confirming their direct paternal lines back to their MRCA Andrew Boyd Coffey born 1818. They share the common Haplogroup R-FTB71880. FTDNA estimates with a 95% probability their common ancestor was born between 1650-1900, with the most likely year rounded to 1800.
  • Paternal relationship is confirmed through Y-chromosome DNA testing. Richard Coffey, FTDNA kit #168121, and his 3rd cousin once removed William Coffey, FTDNA kit #B114973, match at a Genetic Distance of 1 on 111 markers thereby confirming their direct paternal lines back to their MRCA Hugh Coffey. FTDNA indicates that the probability the two share a common ancestor within the last 4 generations is 78.35% and within the last 5 generations is 91.4%. FTDNA indicates that their most recent common ancestor who formed the SNP (R-FTB71880) is estimated to have been born around 1800 CE.
  • Paternal relationship confirmed by a GEDmatch test between Richard Coffey Gedmatch T719067 and his third cousin John Starnes GEDmatch M194603. Their most-recent common ancestors are their second great grandparents Andrew Anderson Jr and Louisa Amelia (Humphries) Anderson. Estimated number of generations to MRCA = 2.6, based on sharing 407.3 cM across 21 segments.
  • Paternal relationship is confirmed by a triangulated group on GEDmatch consisting of LB, Richard Coffey, L P who share a 9.8 cM segment on chromosome 6. The most recent common ancestors shared by all three are Allen Humphries and Lucinda (Breazeale) Humphries.
