Biography

Born in 1849 Francis Clutton was son of Ralph Clutton, vicar of Saffron Walden in Essex, and his wife, Isabella Ellice.^[1][2]

By 1887 he had made it to Denver in Colorado where on 5 December he married Johanna Marie Louise Pels. ^[3]

By 1901 when he returned to England on vacation he and his Dutch born wife were naturalised United States Citizens earning their living farming at Denver. At the time the Census was taken they were staying with a distant relative, Turner Collin in Saffron Walden. (Turner's sister was married to Francis' brother, but it is also likely that they were childhood friends). ^[4]

Francis died 20 December 1901. ^[5] He was buried at Fairmount Cemetery in Denver.^[6]
