Belle Chrystall was born on the 25th April 1910 in Fulwood, Preston.[1] She was the daughter of Alexander Chrystall and Isabella Mercer. She passed away in 2003. [2]
It has been suggested that Belle Chyrstall, was not her real name and that she lied about her age. It was assumed by the family she was called Isabelle and that she used a pet form of this in Belle but her Birth Registration in fact proves otherwise
1911 Census Fulwood, Preston, Lancashire, England, United Kingdom
She was educated at Preston School for Girls and Westbourne High School and in 1927 Belle then went on to Rada. She made her stage debut in Crime in 1928, and after several further engagements set her sights on a film career.
Of all her Films the only one still widely available is Edge of the World.
Edge of the World was filmed on location at Foula in the Shetland Isles. Whilst filming took place a storm brewed and the island was cut off from the main land for a couple of days. Whether it was because of this or the more publicly reason to leave her 1937 image the way it was she declined to appear in the follow up Return to the Edge off the World.
She is remembered also for the many Radio Plays in the 1930's , a time before most people had a television in their home and media entertainment was via the wireless.
In the 1940s she also undertook some modelling and was for a time the face of Lux Soap.
