George Brock Chisholm was a Canadian psychiatrist, medical administrator and decorated soldier. He was the first Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) and during World War II served as Director General of Medical Services, the Canadian Army's highest ranking medical position.
Born on 18 May, 1896 in Oakville, Ontario, he was the son of Frank Herbert Chisholm and Elizabeth McCraney.[1]
On 21 June 1924, Chisholm married Grace McLean Ryrie. They had two children, Catherine Anne and Brock Ryrie.[2]
In 1946, Chisholm became executive secretary of the Interim Commission of WHO, based in Geneva.
On 4 February 1971, Chisholm died age 74 in Veterans' Hospital, Victoria, British Columbia, after a series of strokes.[3][4]
