Edward was born in 1842 to early settlers of New Plymouth.
In 1876, he married Louisa Clare[1], eldest daughter of Captain Clare, harbour master at Invercargill. They had six daughters and three sons
He was Collector of Customs at Lyttelton, Wellington, and later, Hokitika on the West Coast of New Zealand. He served as Secretary of the Masonic Lodge in Hokitika.
He died when he was 52 years old[2].
His funeral left the Masonic Lodge [3] in New Plymouth. He was then buried at Te Henui Cemetery [4].
