DEATH.,Thames Star, Volume XXIX, Issue 8658, 12 May 1897 Childerhouse .— On May 12th, accidentally killed in the Nonpareil mine, John, dearly beloved husband of Mary Childerhouse, aged 52 years.
Mr Childerhouse was a member of the Loyal Waikaro Lodge of Oddfellows, and leaves a wife and family of six children.
THE FATAL ACCIDENT IN THE NONPAREIL MINE.,Auckland Star, Volume XXVIII, Issue 110, 13 May 1897 .... At the inquest in connection with Childerhouse's death evidence was given by Ezra Carbwright, manager of the Nonpareil mine, Frank Kidd, deceased's mate, and James Coutts, Mining Inspector, after which the jury returned a verdict that death was caused by a fall of earth, and that no blame was attachable to anyone.

LOCAL AND GENERAL.,Evening Post, Volume LIII, Issue 114, 15 May 1897 The particulars of the accident at the Thames on Wednesday which resulted in the death of Mr. John Childerhouse (uncle of Sergeant Gentles, of the Permanent Artillery of Wellington) show that he was knocked down by a fall of mullock in the Nonpareil Company's mine. Some of the stone struck him on top of the head, and after saying to his companion, "I'm done for," he became unconscious. He died on his way to the Hospital. Deceased leaves a widow and six children.
