Samuel Charters was baptized on 20 November 1741 in Inverkeithing, Fife, Scotland. He was the son of the minister Thomas Charters and his wife Christian Wardlaw.[1]
He studied at the University of Glasgow and followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather to become a minister in the Church of Scotland. He was licenced by Presb. of Edinburgh on 28 November 1764 and ordained minister of Kincardine-in-Menteith Parish, in the Presbytery of Dunblane, on 12 January 1799. Later, in February 1771, he moved to the rural parish of Wilton.[2][3]
