Biography
NOTE: Grace's original profile was named Grace Patch. Patch has since been found to be her first married name. In fact she was baptised Grace Cattlin, also spelled Catlyn (her marriage to John Patch) and Catlin in a Wills Beneficiaries Index, after her death..
On 21 Nov 1710, at the age of six, Grace was baptised in Saffron Walden, St Mary The Virgin, Essex, England. Her parents are recorded as Rob and Eliz Cattlin. On the baptism record, her birth date is recorded as 28 June 1704. [1]
On 17 May 1732, Grace married John Patch in Saffron Walden. Her last name is recorded as Catlyn. The marriage took place at Wicken Bonhunt, a small village not far from Saffron Walden. Grace's residence at the time is recorded as Great Chesterford. [2]
On 25 June 1741, Mrs Grace Patch, widow, married bachelor James Sutherland in Saffron Walden. [3] Grace and James had at least two children: a daughter Frances or Francesca and a son James.
Grace (along her children James and Francesca) is mentioned as Edward Davy's first wife, in his will of 1766. [4] Grace Suthed [sic] married Edward Davy on 6 August 1747 in the village of Wendens Ambo, near Saffron Walden. [5]
Grace must have passed away before 1757, when Edward married his second wife, Dorothy Howland, in Haverhill. [6]
Grace is named as parent of her daughter Frances or Francisca Sutherland now Woodcock, who was beneficiary of a will. In the document, Grace is named Sutherland (formerly Catlin). [7]
