Joseph Carter was born on 18 August 1744 in Whaddon, Buckinghamshire, England, son of John Carter (abt. 1724–abt. 1754) and Joan Bond (abt. 1724–abt. 1754).
Joseph (23) married Anne Perkins (23) (born about 1744) in 1768 in All Saint's Church, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, England. Their known son was John Carter (abt. 1765 – abt. 0 December 1784).
Joseph died about November 1804 in Albemarle, Virginia, United States, aged about 60.
Based on Y DNA testing Joseph Carter was a distant of John Carter and Nicholas Carter who were close cousins. Links for all three men at the FTDNA Carter Surname Project can be found on the Carter Name Study page.
It would be more likely that the Carters were a Painswick family, and the couple married in Painswick.
