Biography

John Canning was born in Napier New Zealand. His family moved to Hamilton when John was 5 years old. They spent a year in Hamilton before moving to Rotorua. In 1968 the family spent a year in Wellington before returning to Rotorua. John did his High School education at Edmund Rice College in Rotorua.

In 1976 John Joined the NZ Police and worked in Trentham, Auckland, Rotorua, Edgecumbe, Whakatane, Kawerau, Westport, Rotorua and Greymouth over the next 40 years. In 2016 John retired from the Police after 40 years service. At the time of his retirement John was the Area commander for the West Coast of NZ.
