Biography

Willie was born in 1874 to John Campbell and Fannie Reid. Willie Campbell was drowned while bathing in Straight Creek near his home. On Sunday morning Willie attended church and Sabbath school at Muscotah. After dinner, he and his younger brother asked their mother's permission to go to the creek and bathe. His brother waded out as far as he could and tried to reach him, failing in this he secured a stick and reached it to Willie as he was sinking the third time, but he was so near gone that he could not take hold. The younger brother then ran home for assistance. An older brother and hired man, who were at the house ran to the creek and secured the body.[1]

Willie is buried in the Estes Cemetery located in Jackson County, Kansas.
