Biography

Thomas Ross was born in 1822. He passed away in 1913. parents : Samuel Cameron (of Ardochie, Stratherick, Inverness) and Mary McDonald (McDonald of Keppoch)

Yet another pioneer settler has passed away in the person of the late Mr Thos. Ross cameron. He died at the ripe age of 90 years, on Saturday last at the residence of Mr John R. Macdonald of Heatherlea, Levin.
The deceased, who was born in Scotland in 1822, landed in Melbourne in 1851, and after spending some years at the gold diggings in Bendigo and elsewhere, came over to New Zealand in the year 1856, landing in Wellington on New Year's Day of that year.
He was engaged for years in following farming pursuits,, chiefly at Taranaki.
Of a family of thirteen children, he is survived by four sons and four daughters, viz., Archibald Cameron (Manaia) S. Cameron (Feilding) James Cameron (Utiku) and Ronald Cameron (Hunterville); Mrs Alex. Gameron (Levin), Mrs Thos. Cameron (Hunterville) Mrs R. A. Macdonald (Levin), and Mrs J. R. Macdonald (Levin); also sixty-one grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will take place on Tuesday, at Turakina cemetery, where his wife, the late Mrs Thos. Ross Cameron is interred.
The late Thomas Ross Cameron was the son of Samuel Cameron, of Ardochie, Stratherick and Mary Macdonald, a descendant of the house of Macdonald and Keppoch; and was born in Dochinassie, Loch Aber, Invernesshire, Scotland, in 1822. I
