Biography
William Cameron was born in 1849 in Connecticut, son of George A. Cameron and Amanda M. Dayton.[1]
In the November 1850 census William Cameron age 1 was in Southington, Hartford, Connecticut, United States with his parents George age 36, Amanda age 29, and 2 siblings Franklin age 7 and Delight age 4. They were all born in Connecticut. George was a bolt maker and owned $400 in real estate.[2]
In the July 1860 census Wm age 11 was on a farm in Frankfort, Wright, Minnesota, United States. His father owned $1000 real estate.[3]
In the 1870 census William age 22 was the head of household in Burns Township, Anoka, Minnesota, United States. He owned the farm worth $250. He and his wife Esther Cameron age 22 had a 1 year old daughter named Delight. Esther’s mother, Mrs. Eliza Stevens owned the neighboring farm and Asa, the oldest son at home, was farming it. [4]
11 December 1871 William G Cameron married Esther E Stevens in Anoka Township, Anoka, Minnesota, United States. This was their second marriage and included an explanation that their earlier marriage was illegal because her former husband, who was believed dead, had since returned. He had now divorced her. [5] The marriage license of William G Cameron and Miss Esther E Stevens was recorded on January 9, 1872.[6]
In the 1875 census Wm G age 26 and Esther age 28 were in Burns, Anoka, Minnesota. They had 2 children Willie age 6 and Delight age 5. William’s parents George age 62 and Miranda age 58 Cameron were living with them. Esther’s mother Eliza Stevens and 2 brothers Walter and Joseph were still her neighbors. Her brother Asa Stevens and his wife Sophia were also living nearby.[7]
19 October 1896 in Calhoun, Michigan, United States, William B Cameron, son of William Y Cameron and Esther Stevens, married Minnie Wing, daughter of Ruben Wing and Lorinda Hockins. Minnie was 24, born in 1872 in Michigan. William B was 24, born in 1872 in Minnesota.[8]
22 June 1913 William and Esther’s daughter Delight Cameron died at the Minnesota School for Feeble-Minded and Colony for Epileptics in Faribault, Rice, Minnesota, United States.[9]
Research Notes
I haven’t found William’s death record yet. Their daughter Delight Cameron who was labeled "idiotic" in the census was already living with her maternal grandmother Eliza Stevens in 1880. Maybe Esther and William were both already deceased.Morey-1961 02:04, 4 May 2024 (UTC)
